Members of the Marshall Skills Academy team were pleasantly surprised to see a familiar face returning to the shop floor this week: former Marshall apprentice trainer Keirron Mascall.
Keirron toured Marshall Skills Academy’s state-of-the-art new facility, which opened its doors earlier this year with a ceremony attended by the UK Secretary of State for Education Gillian Keegan, leaders from industry and academia, and a host of current and former Marshall apprentices.
One of the highlights of Keirron’s visit was a reunion with former colleague Robin Lipscombe. As two of Marshall’s longest serving learning facilitators, Keirron and Robin have racked up more than 100 years (and counting) of combined experience, with much of their careers overlapping.
Despite Keirron’s retirement in 2019 after 50 years of service to Marshall, the two trainers are still the stuff of legend among Marshall’s alumni, with generations of apprentices sharing their own experiences of learning from the dynamic duo.
Keirron and Robin have been so instrumental in the shaping of Marshall apprentices that the new workshop has been named the Lipsombe-Mascall Workshop in their honour.
As part of his visit, Keirron was presented with a Cambridgeshire Apprentice Champion Award in recognition of his commitment and unwavering dedication to forging the paths for many apprentices under his guidance.
Keirron commented, “It is a great honour to have helped guide so many young people into successful careers. The new facility is amazing and to have my name on such an important part of it is truly a wonderful gesture.”
